The Friends of Norwich Cathedral design a Christmas Card Competition 2024

Every year, the Friends of Norwich Cathedral sell Christmas Cards to help raise money to support the maintenance of the fabric of the building of Norwich Cathedral. The Friends are inviting anyone over the age of 16 currently studying art, design, photography and illustration in Norfolk to create a design for 2024’s card based on the theme, ‘Norwich Cathedral at Christmas or in winter’.

Entries must be submitted by 29th March 2024

Entry to the competition is only open to those over the age of 16 studying in Norfolk

 
 

FORMAT

  • Artwork should be A4 and submitted digitally via email
  • Photographs should be sent as jpeg images (210mm x 297mm) at 300dpi
  • Portrait or landscape
  • Can be in colour or black and white– please do not stick material such as tinsel, glitter, or sequins onto the entry
  • Should be an image only and not have any text

PRIZE

The winning design will be printed as one of The Friends Christmas cards for 2024. It will also feature the winner’s name and place of study on the back of the card.

The winner will receive a certificate, 2 packs of the cards and a special tour of the Cathedral.

The winner will also be invited to attend the Friends AGM on the evening of 13th May and a certificate will be presented by The Dean of Norwich Cathedral.

Terms and Conditions

The Friends reserve the right to include the entrants’ name and the name of the place of study alongside where images are used. No other information will be shared.

  • Entry to the competition is only open to those over the age of 16 studying in Norfolk
  • Entries must be submitted by 29th March 2024. Late entries will not be considered for this year. 
  • Entries must be submitted as JPEG file at 300dpi for production 210mm x 297mm landscape or portrait.
  • All entries should respond directly to the competition – to design a Christmas card based on the theme, ‘Norwich Cathedral at Christmas or in winter’.
  • Original artwork designs should be A4. Designs must not stick additional material like tinsel, glitter, or sequins onto the entry. The designs must NOT contain any text.
  • Entries will be judged on their artistic merit and suitability to sell to the charity The Friends of Norwich Cathedral.
  • The Friends Card Committee will shortlist the entries and The Dean will decide on the overall winner.
  • Entries will be anonymous for judging purposes.
  • The judges’ decisions will be final and binding in all matters and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The winning entrant will be notified using the contact information provided by no later than 26th April 2024. If the Friends are unable to contact the winner, or if any prize is not claimed within 7 days of being notified then the winner will be deemed to have forfeited their prize and the Friends reserves the right to determine a new winner for that prize.
  • The name, and place of study of the winner and will be posted on the Cathedral website.
  • The winner may be required to post the original artwork to The Friends at 65 The Close, Norwich, NR1 4DH by 10th May 2024 subject to print requirements. In this case the artwork can be collected at a later date.
  • The winning design will be printed as one of The Friends Christmas cards available for sale for 2024. It will also feature the winner’s name, and place of study on the back of the Christmas card. The winner will receive a certificate, and 2 packs of the cards. Also, they will be offered a personal tour of the Cathedral. This may be subject to change. There will be no alternative to the prizes.
  • The shortlisted entries may be displayed at the Cathedral.
  • Personal data supplied during the course of this competition will only be processed by The Secretary to Friends of Norwich Cathedral.
  • The Friends reserves the right to cancel the competition at any stage if it considers such action necessary, or for reasons beyond the Friend’s reasonable control, and the Friends will have no liability to the entrants in respect of any such cancellation.
  • By entering the competition, the winning entrant grants the Friends an irrevocable, perpetual license to reproduce, enlarge, publish, or exhibit, mechanically or electronically on any media worldwide (including the internet) the entrant’s winning artwork.
  • All images and artwork must be original emailed as the artists’ own work, do not enter copyrighted art or material. Copyright infringement will be the responsibility of the artist who submits the work and not by The Friends of Norwich Cathedral. It is the artists’ responsibility to check this.
  • Submitting an entry to the competition indicates acceptance of these terms and conditions. The Friends reserve the right to refuse entry or refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.
